On this cold evening, I was sitting alone in my favorite bakery in Telavi. Through the window, I could see a few people smoking in the chilly alleyway. The doors and window frames were green, the walls were beige with a yellowish tint, the tables were light blue, as if faded, and other customers were sitting on the orange couches. It was warm and pleasant. I ordered dinner and drank fruit tea – I also liked the food here. We found this cafe with a lovely girl a little over a week ago, trying to escape the rain. Of course, I much preferred spending time with her, sipping something and laughing at all sorts of nonsense. Delicious tea and pleasant memories of the days spent here – that was all I thought about that day. The very next evening, I left, but not far yet.
In the last few days, I've been thinking a lot about what to do and where to go next. My main desire is South America, Mexico, or Colombia, but I haven't saved up enough money for a flight yet. Telavi has been the closest place to my home for the past two years, and I've occasionally thought about stopping by. It's also gotten very cold here recently, which has sometimes made me want to spend the winter in warm, beloved Laos. I also liked Georgia itself, and if it weren't for the approaching winter, I might have rushed to make a decision.
Telavi is a cozy town in the Alazani Valley, which will long be remembered for its hospitality, wine, grapes, the Caucasus Mountains on the horizon, medieval castles, churches, an old guesthouse with a view of the valley, and a vibrant romance. Another place where I felt truly good. I wrote "good" and tried to remember the last time I felt this way at home. Probably before Covid, can you imagine? Maybe that's why I don't feel like going home.
