Why is a website management system needed and what does it provide?

Website creation and support on ModX

What is a content management system?

The main function of a CMS system is to provide the ability to support a site to any person, who does not have special knowledge in the field of programming. That is, you can change the content of your site yourself without knowing html, css and js.

To work with the site, the user is provided with a special control panel, protected by a login and password. The interface is no more complicated than in a regular social network, somewhere it is even closer to programs like Microsoft Office.

Now let's talk more about what the site management system gives to the site and what you can do:

  1. Change headings and texts;
  2. Add, delete, edit articles;
  3. Upload photos to the photo gallery or portfolio;
  4. Update contact information;
  5. Add reviews;
  6. Launch promotions and special offers;
  7. Prescribe SEO settings for the site.

By and large, without special knowledge, you can only change the logical structure of the site. For this, you still need a programmer. Everything else can be customized thanks to the content management system (CMS).

There are many different systems, for example - ModX, Opencart, Netcat, Wordpress, Joomla, Bitrix, etc. I work with different systems. The choice of system depends on the goals and objectives of the site. Most often I use ModX, now I will tell you about it in a little more detail.

Creating and maintaining websites on ModX

I'll tell you why I like working with ModX.

I've encountered many management systems, worked with website builders and even made my own CMS, which is certainly a bit of fun. And over all these years, I've come to the conclusion that the most successful website management system for my work tasks is ModX. In fact, I don't see any drawbacks in it. I can create one-page business card and landing sites, corporate websites and online stores on it. To be fair, I should say that I sometimes use other systems specifically for stores. But nevertheless, you can do this on ModX too.

What are the advantages of ModX?

If you don't know which CMS system to choose, then the next paragraph is for you.

So, what are the advantages, let's go in order:

  • ModX is free, i.e. you don't have to pay money to buy and use it;
  • I have a fully working build - updated, already configured for work and with important additional components. So, installing this build on the hosting takes no more than 10 minutes. This is a very quick start for the site!
  • The ability to install additional components - these are mini-applications that perform a lot of useful functions. And if I don't need to spend time on programming these functions, then I can launch sites faster and save my clients' time;
  • Online and one-click system update;
  • Speed of work - site pages load instantly and without delays due to optimization of the system itself and support for the latest versions of PHP;
  • Scalability - you can initially make a one-page business card site, and then expand it and come to a full-fledged corporate site;
  • The system has a clear interface for the client (user), i.e. my customers can independently add articles, change contacts and other information on the site without special knowledge. The management interface is somewhat similar to a mixture of Microsoft Office and some social network;
  • You can impose absolutely any design and layout on the system and you do not need to choose from strange themes offered in other systems;
  • The system has protection from "fools", i.e. you can create several users and delimit their rights so that your company employees who will manage the site cannot accidentally delete or break anything;
  • The system allows you to quite easily create a backup copy, which can be transferred to another hosting, if necessary.

If you already have a site on ModX and you are looking for a specialist for support, then I will tell you about the principles of my work with ModX.

How do I work with ModX?

  • At the time of writing, I work with the most current ModX version 2.8.3 and PHP 7.4;
  • If required, I make notes about their functions in all elements of the system (chunks, snippets, additional fields) so that other developers can quickly understand the system;
  • With rare exceptions, I do not get into the core of the system without creating errors and non-obvious logic of the system;
  • I differentiate the rights of site administrators and company employees who will add content;
  • If necessary, I integrate third-party services into the system;
  • I think through the structure of sites so that the content (texts, headings, images, videos, contacts, articles) can be changed by the customer without special knowledge in programming;
  • I teach the customer how to work with the site - both in person and online.

Well, that's all, I think) If you have any questions about ModX, send them to my email: innovative-business@mail.ru or WhatsApp: +7 (920) 154-26-56.
